Regional News and Info:

The LaGrange Daily News is writing an article on why people love reading. Becky Holland, the Life Style Editor, will be at the LaGrange Memorial Library on February 18th from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. soliciting your stories. Please stop in and see her!

If you or a family member is a user of the talking book service for the blind and physically handicapped, major changes have been proposed for this program. Presently a network of 11 libraries throughout the state provides for the distribution of audio materials. The new configuration would centralize much of this service. Hearings are scheduled throughout the state to gain input from the public and talking book users. The meeting in the Troup-Harris area will be held at the Columbus Public Library (3000 Macon Road) on February 23 at 2 p.m.

Tax Forms: By mid-January, all library branches will have a limited selection of the most often used forms and instructions needed by individuals to file their personal income tax returns. Please be advised that both the IRS and the Georgia Department of Revenue are urging taxpayers to file their returns electronically and therefore are making fewer forms available in bulk to public libraries and other tax form outlet locations. For additional forms and information, visit the IRS and the Georgia Department of Revenue online.

Join us at A Likely Tale Book Club on February 15, 2010 at 7 p.m. in the board room of the LaGrange Memorial Library. The book club meets on the third Monday of each month at 7 p.m. New members are welcome!

With state budget cuts, our book dollars from the state have been reduced from 60 cents per capita to 20 cents per capita! If you have books that are only several years old, please consider donating them to us when you are finished reading them. It will help our poor, depleted book fund and bring enjoyment to other people in the community - plus it's tax deductible!

We have switched to PINES , the state circulation system.
If you haven't already done so, please come in and sign up for your new library card! It will give you access to the holdings of 270 libraries in 133 counties in Georgia.

Both the LaGrange Memorial Library and the Harris County Public Library have gone wireless! Patrons are welcome to bring in their laptop computers and get on the Internet.
