It’s Here! A Car Tag for Georgia
Libraries!

Please show your support
for Georgia’s
public libraries through the purchase of a library car tag! After four years of efforts, public library
supporters finally have a library car tag approved by the Legislature. But, that’s just the first step. We need 1,000 people to sign up to purchase
one before it can be produced. We need
your help!
How
much will the special library tag cost?
In
addition to the regular $20 registration fee, there will be a $50 extra charge
for the first year ($25 for plate manufacturing, and $25 for the special tag
fee). In subsequent years, the annual extra fee will be $25 in addition
to the regular registration fee.
How
can one apply for the tag?
You
will have to apply at your local county tag (tax) office. Checks should be made
out to the County Tax Commissioner. Department of Revenue does not offer
any online application options. 1,000 applications must be received prior
to December 31, 2008
for the special plate to be manufactured. If not, then application fees
will be refunded.
When looking on the list of available car tags, the library car tag is listed as "Georgia Center for the Book" under "Special Interest Plates".
How will the revenue from
the special plate be used?
The Georgia Center
for the Book (GCB) will receive $10 for every special tag fee collected by the
state. The funds are to be used to purchase books for Georgia public libraries.
